The provision of faster and higher angle of attack movements for aircraft testing can be accommodated by using an Arc Sector system. This motorised curved rack driven system can stow away beneath the test section when not in use.

The model Yaw angle change is achieved by slewing the entire mounting system, Pitch change is on the curved arc arm, and Roll change is achieved by the ‘roll head’.

To provide a dual testing system within a given space under a test section, ATE has also designed a combined 6 component external balance with Arc Sector motion system: the mechanical external balance can provide traditional testing and model support, but the yaw drive slewing ring is utilized for both the balance yaw rotation and the Arc Sector yaw rotation. This provides a more cost effective way to enable traditional and higher angle of attack testing.
